Ugandan authorities have provided additional details regarding the tragic murder of Ronald Mukisa, a prominent lawyer based in Kampala, known affectionately as Ronnie. The chilling incident occurred in Kajjansi, situated off Entebbe Road, where Mukisa was fatally shot multiple times in the head.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy spokesperson of Kampala Metropolitan Police, shared these distressing details with ChimpReports, which initially broke the story on a Wednesday morning. Owoyesigyire disclosed that this harrowing murder transpired during the night of May 30, 2023, specifically at Kitiko Birongo in Ndejje Division, Makindye Sebagabo within Wakiso District.
Identifying the victim as 45-year-old lawyer Mukisa Ronnie, employed at IBC Advocates, located in Namanda Plaza, Kampala, Owoyesigyire went on to outline the sequence of events leading to the tragic incident. According to preliminary police reports, Mukisa often returned home late, a habit that may have tragically led to his demise.
On the night in question, Mukisa arrived at the parking lot of his apartment complex at approximately 11:30 p.m. After parking his dark blue Subaru Legacy, registered under the number UBJ 006K, Mukisa began closing the gate. It was during this routine act that nearby residents were startled by the sound of gunshots, prompting them to investigate the disturbance.
Eyewitness statements suggest that an unidentified assailant was observed firing shots at Mr. Mukisa. After a brief withdrawal, the attacker returned, firing multiple close-range shots at Mukisa’s head before quickly fleeing the scene on a waiting motorcycle, leaving behind an uncertain trail.
This tragic incident unfolds against the backdrop of a concerning rise in gun violence within the country. Just months prior, Uganda lost another notable figure, vlogger Ibrahim Tusubilwa, known as Isma Jaja Iculi, in a similarly mysterious and deadly assault. Isma was ambushed and shot outside his Kyanja residence in Kampala, with the assailants escaping on a waiting motorcycle.
These incidents have raised serious concerns about the existence of organized criminal groups in Uganda, capable of taking lives with impunity. To date, authorities have yet to make arrests in Isma’s case.
In response to the incident, Kajjansi Police Station swiftly acted upon receiving the report. They dispatched a team to the scene and introduced canine units to aid in their investigative efforts, although the trail was ultimately lost. However, a search of the crime scene did yield four projectiles and cartridges.
The body of Ronald Mukisa was subsequently recovered and transported to the city mortuary at Mulago National Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination. Kajjansi Police Station is actively conducting inquiries to uncover additional information and establish the motive behind this heinous crime.
In his closing statement, Owoyesigyire assured the public of the police force’s commitment to apprehending the perpetrator(s) and delivering justice. He urged anyone with pertinent information to step forward and assist in the ongoing investigation, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in solving this distressing case.
