Over 200 t-shirts donning President Yoweri Museveni’s portraits were on Wednesday grabbed by rowdy youth at Alapat Trading Centre in Lemusui Sub-county in Nakapiripirit.

Sources that attended the meeting said the angry and energetic youth stormed the campaign venue and grabbed the Museveni t-shirts while Minister of State for Labour, Esther Anyakun, was addressing her voters.

“Why were we not given these t-shirts when the President came to campaign? This is our property,” the youth were quoted as saying.

They complained that Anyakun had hoarded the t-shirts that were supposed to be distributed to them in Naturum Trading Centre on October 27, when the NRM flag bearer campaigned in their district. They said she should have instead supplied her own  T-shirts.

Anyakun, who also doubles as the MP for Nakapiripirit District, is among Museveni’s ministers named to have stolen iron sheets meant for vulnerable youth from Karamoja two years ago.

Sources said that after distributing the t-shirts among themselves, the rowdy youth again charged the congregation and grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash from Anyakun’s newly appointed Political Assistant, Nancy Aule, and sped off with it. They said the money was in denominations of 2,000 UGX.

Her earlier PA, Mr. John Loonye, was appointed Assistant RDC, a position that recently raised eyebrows due to lack of academic qualifications.

The minister, however, promised to repair roads leading to Lemusui, which she said were in a desperate state. She pledged support to the health and education sectors, which she said were crucial in ensuring sustainable development is achieved.

She rallied the residents to vote overwhelmingly for President Yoweri Museveni, who she said had taken Karamoja to a better level and whose efforts should be enhanced.
