Bobi Wine Heads to Canada as Talks with George Soros Allies Spark Funding Allegations

National Unity Platform (NUP) President and opposition leader Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has left Uganda for Canada, where he is expected to attend a major Diaspora conference. The trip is part of his ongoing international engagements as he prepares for the 2026 presidential elections.

According to sources within the party, Bobi Wine is expected to meet top American diplomats and members of the Ugandan community abroad. During these engagements, he will reportedly share his political strategy aimed at unseating President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and seek international support for his campaign.

There are claims that the NUP leader, through his international contacts, is actively seeking funding to support his political struggle. Prominent among those reportedly involved is Faisal Mukasa, a Ugandan lawyer based in the United Kingdom, who is said to be spearheading discussions with potential donors, including representatives linked to American billionaire George Soros.

Although these talks remain unconfirmed by the party, they have drawn sharp criticism from the ruling government. President Museveni recently accused Bobi Wine of being backed by foreign forces in a plot to destabilize the country, a claim that has been echoed by several state-aligned media outlets. The President has reportedly directed security agencies and intelligence operatives in both the United States and the UK to monitor any potential sources of funding for Bobi Wine’s 2026 campaign.

The government is also said to be on high alert to track and intercept any financial inflows that may be aimed at supporting the NUP’s political activities. With tensions rising ahead of the 2026 elections, the spotlight remains firmly on Bobi Wine’s international engagements and the response they may provoke from the ruling establishment.
