Buyela Christopher Quietly Brewing Support, Now Leading in Delegates’ Engagement for NRM Eastern Seat

The contest for the position of NRM Vice Chairperson for the Eastern Region has taken a new direction, with Buyela Christopher emerging as a strong contender among the nine candidates.

This marks Buyela’s second attempt at the influential Central Executive Committee (CEC) seat. Unlike his first bid, he has now adopted a low-key approach. Once very active on social media, he has since gone silent and is instead focusing on direct mobilisation.

Reports indicate that he has been quietly engaging delegates across the country—especially youths, women, and councillors, placing him ahead in delegates’ support.

Buyela, previously known as a close ally of the Speaker, has reportedly distanced himself after learning of her alliance with Capt. Mike Mukula. His decision has positioned him as an independent candidate charting his own course.

According to political observers, the outcome of the Eastern Region race could be influenced by the results of the NRM National Female Vice Chairperson contest.

If Hon. Anita secures that position, delegates may avoid voting for another candidate from her tribe for the Eastern slot. This scenario is said to favour youthful candidates such as Buyela Christopher and Naigaga Mariam, who are both viewed as strong prospects.

The Central Executive Committee vetting process is now awaited to determine the final line-up. However, analysts say Buyela’s quiet but steady mobilisation gives him an upper hand in delegates’ engagement, positioning him as one of the leading contenders in the race.
