Lira City, Uganda — Lango NRM delegates have officially endorsed Hon. Godfrey Kiwanda Ssuubi for the position of NRM Vice Chairperson, Central Region, on the Central Executive Committee (CEC).
While addressing hundreds of delegates at Good News Hotel in Lira City on Saturday, Kiwanda emphasized the importance of unity within the party, calling for an end to individual fights in the NRM.
“In 2026, history will be different in the Buganda region. The NRM will gain massively,” he declared. Kiwanda previously served as the Chairperson of the Buganda Parliamentary Forum during the 7th Parliament, and later as Minister of Tourism, Wildlife, and Antiquities from 2016 to 2021.
“Give me a second term—let me reap what I sowed. You voted for us during the COVID-19 period; now leave Kiwanda as Chairman and allow us to serve,” he urged.
“I have worked closely with Dr. Jane. When you mention the word ‘NRM’ in Buganda, Kiwanda is synonymous with the party’s leadership in the region.”
Kiwanda urged the delegates to support him at the upcoming party gathering: “I have come here to tell you—if you come to Kololo on the 27th, vote for me.”
He also reflected on NRM’s losses in the previous election cycle, stating that the party lost 31 parliamentary seats in Buganda due to internal divisions, particularly after candidates who lost in party primaries contested as independents.
“Politics is not about biology; it is about ideology,” he added, underscoring his message of principle-based leadership.
The endorsement and consultative meeting brought together delegates from all nine districts of the Lango sub-region, including Apac, Lira, Oyam, Otuke, Alebtong, Amolatar, Dokolo, Kwania, Kole, and Lira City.
