Supporters at Namboole Stadium who came to cheer for the Uganda Cranes were left disheartened not only by the outcome but also by the high prices of goods. Fans were heard expressing their dissatisfaction about the cost of water, struggling with hoarse voices.

These supporters voiced their frustration over a bottle of water that typically sells for 500 shillings but was priced at 3000 shillings during the event. They criticized FUFA and the service providers for attempting to turn a national celebration into a profit-making venture. Many fans indicated that their lack of vocal enthusiasm was due to their hoarse voices.

“We are really frustrated with you FUFA. How can you charge 3000 shillings for water that usually costs 500 shillings? Look at how all these people are so quiet. You shouldn’t exploit us like this. We came to support our national team, and instead, you want to take advantage of us,” lamented one supporter.

In the meantime, the Uganda Cranes faced a 3-0 defeat against Algeria in the opening match. The Cranes, who had previously lost all their encounters with the North African team, struggled to keep up with the Desert Foxes’ dominance. Goals from Ghezala (36), A. Meziane (76), and S. Bayazid (79) secured all three points for Algeria.

The Cranes will be playing their next match on August 8th against Guinea. At present, Joseph Paul Put’s team sits at the bottom of Group C, which includes South Africa, Algeria, Guinea, and Niger.
