KAMPALA — A joint team of police, military, and local vigilantes on patrol in the Kireka Biira area arrested two men in the early hours of November 5, 2025, in connection with possession of a dangerous weapon.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango, the suspects were intercepted at around 2:00am near the Oilcom petrol station. One of them, identified as Lumu Jovan, was found carrying a newly purchased sharp panga.

Upon interrogation, Lumu reportedly told the officers that he and two others had been transported by a motorcycle rider identified as Mawanda Nicholas Kasozi from Nansana to Kireka Biira. The patrol team later traced and arrested Mawanda, together with his motorcycle, registration number UMA 201DQ.

Both suspects are being held at Bulenga Police Station, where they face charges of possession of a dangerous weapon. The panga and motorcycle have been seized as exhibits to aid further investigations.

Police say efforts are underway to track down the remaining suspects believed to be part of the same group.

The arrest is part of an ongoing security operation across the Kampala Metropolitan area, which has in recent days led to the capture of several suspected criminals involved in night robberies and other violent incidents.

Onyango urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements to the nearest police post to help keep their communities safe.
