Reports circulating on social media have sparked debate after claiming that Uganda’s 11th Parliament had planned to send a delegation of about 15 Members of Parliament and selected senior staff to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
According to the reports, Parliament had allegedly procured 20 VIP hospitality tickets for the tournament, while each MP was reportedly allocated nearly UGX 100 million to cover a planned 39-day trip.
The reported budget is said to have included daily allowances of approximately US$700, international air travel, accommodation, and other related expenses.
The reports further allege that the planned trip was shelved after investigations into Parliament’s appropriation and accountability processes commenced, leaving uncertainty over what became of the purported VIP hospitality tickets.
The claims have prompted calls for Parliament to put the tickets “if they are indeed still available” to better public use instead of allowing them to remain unused.

Some commentators have suggested that the tickets be donated to Uganda’s football legends, outstanding local players, coaches, passionate football supporters, or representatives of the Uganda Tourism Board. They argue that such beneficiaries would not only value the opportunity to attend football’s biggest tournament but could also help promote Ugandan football and showcase the country’s tourism potential on the global stage.
Parliament has not publicly confirmed the existence of the alleged VIP tickets or responded to the claims regarding the proposed World Cup delegation and travel budget.
