KAMPALA – Namirembe Angella, a young and well-known human rights advocate, has tragically passed away following a bodaboda accident.
Eyewitnesses report that Angella was struck by a bodaboda yesterday while returning from Uganda Christian University (UCU) Kampala campus. She was rushed to Mulago Hospital, but despite efforts to save her, she succumbed to head injuries and was pronounced dead.
Bodaboda accidents continue to pose a serious risk in Uganda, with reports indicating that over 1,000 Ugandans have lost their lives in such accidents, and more than 2,000 are currently nursing injuries.
MP Betty Nambooze expressed her grief, saying:
“My niece Angella Namirembe – Eliminated at the best of her life. Bannange omwanawattu bamutomeredde ku bodaboda nga agenda ku University okusoma- Naffa nga bamutuusa ku ddwaliro- Mpuliira ng’ensi enguddeko!”
The death of Angella is a heartbreaking loss for her family, friends, and the wider human rights community.
