The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has unveiled its strategy for the 2026 elections, announcing plans to commence grassroots mass mobilization across Uganda in 2024. Speaking during an end-of-year message in Kampala, NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong emphasized the importance of early preparation, stating that the party aims to compete in every position.
In February 2024, as the NRM government marks the third year of its current 5-year term, the primary focus will be on preparing the party for the upcoming elections, Todwong revealed. The party intends to conduct internal elections, renew leadership within its structures, and identify flag bearers for various positions during 2024.
Todwong highlighted the significance of delivering credible elections for both party structures and flag bearers, emphasizing that the party has analyzed past internal activities to address key challenges. The findings from constituency mobilization conducted in the current year have informed the development of strategies for government intervention to support citizens in different sectors.
The NRM has already established party offices in various districts, including Buhweju, Sironko, Kakumiro, Gulu, Ngora, Mityana, and Luweero. In the coming year, the party plans to embark on a countrywide mass mobilization campaign to encourage public participation in social-economic transformation through government-implemented development programs.
Todwong urged the public to actively engage in government initiatives such as the Youth Fund, Emyooga, and the Parish Development model, emphasizing that effective transformation requires collaboration between the government and the community.
