Former VP’s Son Alex Ssekandi Passes at Rubaga Hospital

Alex Kayanja Ssekandi, the son of former Vice President of Uganda, Mr. Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, has passed away. He was admitted to Lubaga Hospital for the past two weeks, where he ultimately lost his life.

Mr. Ssekandi, who is also a former Speaker of Parliament, shared the heartbreaking news of his son’s passing through his social media account X on Friday.

In his announcement, Mr. Ssekandi expressed his grief, saying, “I announce the sudden death of my son, Alex Kayanja Ssekandi. Alex passed away yesterday at Lubaga Hospital, where he had been receiving medical care for the past two weeks. It’s an incredibly challenging time for me and my family. Rest in Peace, my beloved son; I can’t believe you are no more.”

Speaker of Parliament, Ms. Anita Among, extended her condolences to Mr. Ssekandi’s family, stating, “I offer my sincere sympathies, along with those of the Parliament of Uganda, to the family of our respected elder and leader, the former Speaker of Parliament and former Vice President, H.E. Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, on the loss of his son, Alex Kayanja Sekandi. Your Parliament family stands with you during this difficult time, and we pray that the Lord provides strength and grants Alex’s soul eternal rest.”
