The RDC of Obongi district, Mr. Hasaka Samuel Mpimbasa, has declared the year 2024 a no-go zone for corruption in Obongi. He cautioned the people of Obongi to follow the rule of law but not to take the law into their own hands, as they recently stated before the IGG that they would harm the corrupt.
The people of Obongi district have informed the Ag.IGG, Dr. Patricia Achan Okiria, and the director DRDIP, Dr. LimLim Robert, recently that “if action is not taken against the Obongi CAO Leru Andrew and Ag.OC CID Adrani Christopher, they are going to harm them.” This occurred during a baraza organized by the IGG’s office at the Obongi district Council hall recently (Wednesday afternoon).
According to a letter written by the Wanainchi and read by an official from the IGG’s office, the residents accused Mr. Leru Andrew and OC CID Adrani Christopher of being corrupt and frustrating the struggle against corruption in Obongi district by government bodies and the Wanainchi.
During the reaction time, members of the public accused Obongi district technical staff of being behind all the corruption scandals in the district. The residents cited DRDIP scandals where Obongi received over 38 billion shillings, but some of it has been embezzled.
They disclosed that, under DRDIP, there are very many ghost projects, shoddy work, abandoned projects, and incomplete projects that should have been completed by September 2023, but up to now, nothing has been done yet as DRDIP ends in a few days.
They also cited the tractors scandal where all the money generated by the two tractors was embezzled, and the CAO stubbornly refused to account for the funds as directed by the Obongi district council. Some residents also told the Ag.IGG that some of them paid for plowing their land, but the money was embezzled, and the plowing was not done.
They also disclosed that the two tractors are now grounded and parked at Obongi Health Centre 4 and Obongi CPS due to mismanagement. In reaction, the Inspectorate of Government directed an investigation and a report to be produced within one week.
On his part, the director DRDIP, Dr. LimLim Robert, said he was shocked about the rampant corruption in Obongi and said it is a sign that the district has a leadership crisis. Dr. LimLim said he was going to send a team of experts to join the Inspectorate of Government to carry out the one-week investigations.
One of the DRDIP projects visited by the Ag.IGG and Dr. LimLim is ‘Riyadh Mosque,’ where the treasurer of the mosque, Hajji Ramadhan, accused the district officials and contractor Epicentre of inflating the solar lighting project where over 50 million shillings were spent on 4 solar panels, 4 batteries, inverter, and 17 bulbs.
Hajji Ramadhan told the team that he decided to resign from DRDIP as a community facilitator due to corruption by the Obongi technical staff. As the year comes to an end, many people are suspicious that the corrupt may still be untouchable by the long arm of the law.
