Obongi District to Receive a Brand New Tractor from UNHCR

The head of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) office in Moyo and Obongi district, Mr. Muhamed Shekimweri, has disclosed that UNHCR has purchased a new large tractor for Obongi district. Mr. Shekimweri made this announcement on Friday during the inception meeting of a skilling program to be implemented by Action Against Hunger at the LWF office in Palorinya sub-county, Obongi district.

Mr. Shekimweri, accompanied by the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Obongi, Mr. Lokoroi Charles, and the RDC Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, revealed that UNHCR is providing the tractor to Obongi as a token of appreciation for the NRM government’s favorable policy towards refugees. He stated that the tractor, which will operate on a semi-commercial basis, aims to enhance agricultural productivity in Obongi.

During the opening of the inception meeting, RDC Obongi Mr. Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka expressed gratitude to UNHCR for collaborating with the NRM government to enhance livelihoods among both refugees and Ugandans.

The NGO Action Against Hunger will conduct vocational skills training for 125 youth in Obongi this year, with funding amounting to 140 million shillings from UNHCR. The RDC emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in the program’s implementation, urging all stakeholders to adhere to these principles when handling such projects.
