Business came to a standstill for close to two hours on the Gulu-Pabbo-Atiak-Nimule road as a fuel tank, with the registration number SSD 912P Masha Allah, overturned in Amuru. The accident occurred at Palukere Parish, Atiak Subcounty, Amuru District on Monday morning, involving Obongi RDC Samuel Mpimbasa. The accident took place 57 kilometers away from Gulu city.

According to an eyewitness who spoke on condition of anonymity, the fuel tank had only one occupant – the driver, who is a Somali national and escaped unhurt from the vehicle. Meanwhile, the number of accidents occurring consecutively due to potholes on the Gulu-Pabbo-Atiak-Nimule road is on the rise, primarily due to the increasing number of potholes on the road.

As of the time of this report, diesel continued to pour out from the two chambers of the overturned fuel tank vehicle. Obongi Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Hasaka Samuel Mpimbasa, who was attempting to overtake the vehicle, narrowly escaped unhurt as his vehicle almost overturned close to the fuel tank.

Speaking to our reporter on Monday morning at around 10:20 AM, Hasaka said he almost collided with the fuel tank at Palukere, but it was only by God’s grace that he survived the nasty accident. Several drivers spent close to two hours at the scene, as the number of locals and pedestrians kept increasing to witness the incident.

Efforts to reach Aswa River Region Police spokesperson David Ongom Mudong for comments were unsuccessful as he did not answer repeated phone calls.
