LIRA, UGANDA — Hon. Pamella Angwech Engola has been declared unopposed as the Female Workers’ Representative for Lira District for the 2026–2031 term.
She was officially declared unopposed by the Lira District Returning Officer, Ms. Moreen Mwaka, at the offices of the Electoral Commission of Uganda in Lira.
In a public message following her declaration, Angwech expressed gratitude to the electorate, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) structures, and supporters for the trust placed in her.
“My journey is inseparable from the collective efforts of our party and the voters who entrusted me with this responsibility,” she said. “Together, we will prioritise worker welfare, economic empowerment, and equitable growth.”
Commonly known as “Chain for Development,” Angwech is recognised for her advocacy of transformative policies aimed at improving the livelihoods of workers across the district. Her unopposed victory underscores the confidence and credibility she commands within party ranks and the wider community.
She also extended special recognition to Hon. Sam Engola, Member of Parliament-elect for Erute South Constituency, and thanked all NRM structures in Lira for their support.
Angwech has pledged to address key labour challenges, including access to social services, fair wages, and expanded vocational training opportunities for youth and women. Known for her grassroots mobilisation and community engagement, she emphasised inclusive leadership and collaboration with stakeholders.
Her election comes at a critical time for Lira District, where agriculture and emerging industrial activities remain central to the local economy. She has indicated that her agenda will focus on modernising labour practices, strengthening worker protections, and contributing to sustainable socio-economic transformation in line with national development goals.
As she prepares to assume office, residents and workers across the district are watching closely, hopeful that her leadership will advance worker representation and inclusive development in Lira.
