Over the weekend, the Vice-Chancellor of Muni University, Assoc. Prof. Simon Anguma, graced the 2nd graduation ceremony at Pride Agricultural and Technical Institute, awarding national diplomas and certificates to 105 graduates in Arua City. The event, held at Jiako Primary School Ground, marked another milestone for education in West Nile.

Local resident Oringi petitioned President Museveni to elevate Job Matua, Assistant RCC of Arua City, to full RCC status, even suggesting a State House car for his ‘difficult’ socio-economic missions across the region. Meanwhile, the 3rd Arua City Kids Run aimed at combating child malnutrition beckoned families to Arua Primary School Grounds, promising a blend of fitness and fundraising.

Arua’s potential as a bustling economic hub didn’t go unnoticed. Commentators like Ian Ortega highlighted its burgeoning business community and projected a future where Arua could transform beyond recognition—if growth remains unchecked, that is.

The week saw a more sobering affair at Muni University, where DBZ Events Facility Limited, Uganda Police Force, and education stakeholders gathered for a regional dialogue on school security. Headteachers from across West Nile convened to discuss crucial issues ranging from crime prevention to leadership in the 21st century.

CP Edgar Nyabongo, Uganda Police’s Chief Political Commissar, laid bare the root causes of school-related crimes—from moral decay to administrative weaknesses. He stressed the importance of collaboration between schools and law enforcement, underscoring the role of education in molding responsible citizens.

Regional Police Commander ACP Eddie Sserunjogi emphasized building strong ties with law enforcement, urging headteachers to familiarize themselves with police protocols and communication channels. His call for mutual understanding resonated as SSP Angucia Josephine and SP Asea Collins highlighted incidents of violence in schools, urging collective action to ensure student safety.

The dialogue didn’t just end with speeches; it sparked a commitment among headteachers to implement safety measures and foster closer ties with police. Akena Sheila, National Schools Events Coordinator, pledged to organize more initiatives under DBZ Events Facility Limited, ensuring ongoing support to combat school insecurity.
