Rubanda District LC5 Chairperson, Ampeire Stephen Kasyaba, has underscored the need for the District Contract Committee to attend all government project launches and commissionings, saying their presence is essential in combating substandard work by contractors.
He made the remarks while commissioning several completed education projects, including a multipurpose hall at St Thomas Aquinas SS Kashakyi, a girls’ dormitory at Bubare SS, and a three-classroom block at Rubona Primary School.
Kasyaba expressed concern that the Contract Committee is often absent during key project inspections, a trend he said undermines efforts to hold contractors accountable for poor workmanship.
He warned that the continued absence of the committee has allowed unqualified contractors to secure new contracts without proper evaluation of their past performance, exposing both the LC5 chairperson and the district engineer to potential administrative consequences.
Despite the challenges, Kasyaba commended Nkurunungi Peter, Director of Geses Uganda Ltd, for delivering high-quality work on time, citing the company’s impressive tiling work at Bufundi College SS and the St Thomas Aquinas SS Kashakyi multipurpose hall.
He further highlighted the district’s ongoing achievements in the education and health sectors, using the occasion to emphasize the importance of accountability, transparency, and strict supervision in all government-funded projects.
