Operation Cyber Digital Shield: CSFAU Director Marvin Kashaija Blessed Launches National Drive to Enlist Uganda’s Cyber War Fighters

The Ankole Times

KAMPALA, UGANDA – In a move signaling a major escalation in Uganda’s commitment to national digital defense, the Cyber Security and Forensics Association of Uganda (CSFAU) is launching “Operation Cyber Digital Shield.” This national recruitment drive follows the highly successful Cyber Stars University Student competition and aims to formalize a specialized force of Cyber War Fighters, trained professionals ready to protect the nation against state-sponsored and complex digital attacks.

 Mobilizing Uganda’s Digital Army

Kashaija Marvin Blessed, the Director of the Cyber Security and Forensics Association of Uganda (CSFAU), a Certified Cyber Security and Forensics Expert, framed the initiative as a matter of urgent national security. He asserted that the escalating sophistication of global cyber warfare necessitates a disciplined, well-trained local defense force.

“For too long, Uganda has relied on external expertise. The Cyber Stars competition is a powerful statement that we are ready to cultivate and champion our own local cyber defenders,” said Kashaija Marvin Blessed. “Cyber-attacks are the new form of economic and geopolitical warfare, targeting our critical national infrastructure, from power grids to financial systems.

By investing in and mobilizing our homegrown talent, we are strengthening our borders in the digital domain. As the CSFAU, we view this initiative as crucial to closing the skills gap, transforming the perception of cyber security into a valuable career path, and ultimately, ensuring the integrity and trust of our digital economy. These students, trained and certified, are our first line of national digital defense.”

This aggressive push directly supports the goals of the Ugandan National Cybersecurity Strategy, specifically the pillar dedicated to developing a “Cyber-Skilled Uganda” and enhancing national threat preparedness.

Christine Mujimba, the Director of ICT and Research at UCC, echoed the strategic urgency: “The global cost of cybercrime is staggering. By investing in our younger generation through practical, outcome-based training, we are actively reducing the human capacity gap and strengthening our national defense against digital fraud and data breaches.”

 Joining the Digital Defense Frontline

Operation Cyber Digital Shield is a targeted call to action for every professional and student committed to defending Uganda’s digital future. The CSFAU is the central command for this recruitment, offering structured membership tiers designed to convert raw talent into certified national assets:

  • Professional Tier: For experienced cyber security and forensics experts who will contribute to policy, governance, and threat intelligence.
  • Student Tier: A direct pathway for university students, particularly Cyber Stars participants, offering mentorship, advanced training, and certification opportunities to prepare them for the national defense role.
  • Affiliate Tier: To establish a “whole-of-nation” defense posture by educating non-technical professionals (e.g., in management, law, and finance) on organizational security and risk management.

Mr. Muganhwa Emmanuel Cliff,  The President of the Cybersecurity and Forensics Association of Uganda included with a resolute call to service: “This is a call to arms for the digital generation. By joining the CSFAU, you are not just advancing your career; you are formally enlisting as a Cyber War Fighter dedicated to protecting the data, systems, and sovereignty of our nation. We need your skills, your dedication, and your commitment. The time to fortify our shield is now.”
