RUBIRIZI, Uganda — Katerera Town Council in Rubirizi District has celebrated 15 years of service, highlighting major achievements in infrastructure, governance, and service delivery, while also outlining key challenges that still hinder further development.
Speaking during the anniversary reflection, the Town Clerk, Mr. Mahesi John, said the town council has registered significant growth over the years due to strong collaboration between businesspeople, LC leaders, technical staff, and councillors.
He noted that the town council has managed to construct an administration block, improve several roads using murram, strengthen garbage collection systems, enhance town cleanliness, and increase local revenue collection.
Mr. Mahesi also revealed that the annual budget of Katerera Town Council has grown significantly from UGX 10 million to about UGX 150 million, thanks to improved financial management systems, including the adoption of banking systems to enhance transparency and accountability.
He further pointed out that Katerera Health Centre III has been upgraded, improving access to healthcare services for residents.
The Town Clerk urged residents, especially homeowners and businesspeople, to comply with town planning regulations in order to promote organized and sustainable urban development.

Despite the progress made, Mr. Mahesi acknowledged several challenges facing the town council. These include the need to acquire a garbage truck valued at about UGX 80 million, complete the construction of the town council offices, and tarmack major roads within the town.
Meanwhile, the Mayor of Katerera Town Council, Hon. Bejire Furujensi, commended the collective efforts of leaders, technical staff, and the business community in transforming the town.
She said improvements in governance, healthcare, education, and infrastructure have played a key role in the town council’s development and pledged that the leadership will continue lobbying for more support to improve services in the coming years.
Hon. Furujensi also revealed that local leaders have already lobbied for the installation of security lights in the town to help curb crime and improve safety.
She emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation among leaders, technical staff, and businesspeople, noting that such collaboration has contributed to making Katerera one of the fast-growing towns in the region.
