The Rukiga District Woman MP, Hon. Kamusiime Caroline Muhwezi, has rewarded the top performers of the 2023 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).
Speaking to our reporter after the launch of the mattress distribution held at her office in Muhanga Town Council, Rukiga District, Kamusiime pledged to continue rewarding pupils every year during her term in the legislature.
Kamusiime attributed the high performance of pupils in Rukiga District to her annual reward of mattresses to the best performers.
The Rukiga District Principal Inspector of Schools, Christopher Ndyabegyera, warned school heads against making false announcements on the radio regarding the school’s performance. He commended the legislature for timely delivery of mattresses, especially during these economic hardships.
The Rukiga District Speaker, Oscar Akampurira, and Muhanga Town Council LC5 Councilor, Jacklyn Nkamushaba, attributed the high performance to the mattress project, which has motivated the pupils.
The Rukiga District Deputy RDC, Zadoki Kamusiime, and LC5 Chairperson, Robert Kakwerere, vowed to take action against school-going children who have not returned to school.
Some parents, including Twikirize Midius, Syliver Tumweyambise, and Kyankunzire Patience from Bukinda Sub County and Muhanga Town Council, who spoke to our reporter, said they were unable to purchase mattresses.
Last year, Rukiga had 146 candidates who achieved top grades, and this year there were 233.
Beneficiaries of this project, Nabasa Joshua and Ahimbisibwe Maria Rola, commended Hon. Kamusiime Caroline Muhwezi for her efforts to reduce school dropouts at the primary seven level.
