Leaders in Rukiga District have asked the government to address the poor state of roads and frequent power outages in the area.
During Women’s Day celebrations at Nyakihanga playground in Kashekye Parish, Kamwezi Sub-County, Rukiga District on Saturday, community members raised their concerns. The event, themed “INVEST IN WOMEN: ACCELERATE PROGRESS,” highlighted several local issues.
Addressing the locals, Teddyson Niwagaba, the Kamwezi Sub-County LC3 chairman, raised alarms about the poor condition of roads in the sub-county. He added that it is unfortunate that Kashekye Parish, despite having a large population and health facilities, lacks reliable electricity.
Rukiga District LC5 Chairperson Mbabazi Robert Kakwerere emphasized that the mountainous terrain of Rukiga requires special attention. He pointed out that Bukinda is the only sub-county without a Health Center III, despite it being government policy to have such a facility in every sub-county.
Rukiga District Woman MP Kamusiime Caroline Muhwezi, who was also the chief mobilizer for the Women’s Day celebrations, lamented the poor condition of the Rutobo-Kamwezi Road and the Muhanga-Kisizi Road, which the president had pledged to tarmac.
The chief guest, Jacob Marksons Oboth-Oboth, the state minister for Defense and Veteran Affairs, accompanied by fellow ministers Aisha Sekindi, the state minister for Water and Environment, and David Muhoozi, the state minister for Internal Affairs, pledged to follow up on these issues.
