Rwakakamba Urges Party Unity as NRM Backs Among, Tayebwa for Continued Leadership

RUKUNGIRI – Morrison Rwakakamba, a staunch supporter of President Museveni, an NRM carder in the District of Rukungiri has strongly advised NRM party members to back the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) decision to choice the current Parliamentally leadership to retain their positions in the august house.

Rwakakamba’s remarks follows the NRM’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) that recently sat, discussed and endorsed the current Speaker Rt. Hon. Anitah Annet Among and her Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa to continue the job in the next parliament. Saying that CEC explained reasons for the endorsement.

Speaking with our reporter Rwakakamba, who was at his upcountry home in Rukungiri on Friday last week, noted that the reasons haven’t been challenged point by point by grassroots or incoming Parliamentary caucus members — signaling meaningful consensus in the wider NRM family. According Rwakakamba, membership and allegiance to the NRM Party means that in spite of one’s views and ambition, the Party comes first. “This is vital to avoid rancor and discord in the Party and wider body politic of the Country” he added.

The former Uganda Investment Authority Board Chairperson and NRM’s blue eyed boy reminded party members about the words of the ANC founding father and former President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, in his 1990 speech while in Johannesburg shortly after release from prison, Mandela reaffirmed this principle. He was concrete in stating his unwavering allegiance to the ANC. He stated: “I am a loyal and disciplined member of the African National Congress. I am therefore in full agreement with all of its objectives, strategies and tactics.”

Adding that, while explaining the formation of Umkhonto we Sizwe (the ANC’s armed wing), stressing that Mandela’s illustrated that any actions must remain under the party’s control. He said: “I made it clear that if I formed the organization I would at all times subject it to the political guidance of the ANC and would not undertake any different form of activity from that contemplated without the consent of the ANC.”

“I expect NRM Parliamentarians to hold steady and support decision of NRM’s Central Executive Committee to keep the current leadership of Parliament” said Rwakakamba
