Kotido, Uganda – The joint security forces in Uganda have shot dead three suspected Karamojong warriors in an ambush in Kotido district. One gun was recovered from the suspects.

According to police spokesperson Michael Longole, the security forces received intelligence information on Saturday morning that 12 Jie warriors with one SMG were moving from Kotido to Kaabong via Lolelia South Sub County on a raid mission.

An anti-stock theft unit team from Lolelia and Nakatapan detachment laid an ambush at the possible crossing points where the warriors got trapped.

“The warriors entered into the ambush and three of them were put out of action while others escaped with serious injuries,” Longole said.

He added that the security forces also managed to recover one gun with nine rounds of ammunition, a UPDF water bottle and belt, Karimojong bed sheets, and two phone SIM cards.

Longole noted that while there is still an opportunity for the voluntary handover of guns, some warriors have paid no attention and are the ones causing havoc among the communities.
