KAMPALA — NRM Director for Mobilisation, Cadre Identification, Recruitment and Placement, Hon. Rosemary Nansubuga Sseninde, has called on men to support their wives when they take up leadership and public service responsibilities.
Speaking at an event at Mengo Primary School playground, Sseninde said the support she has received from her husband, Zephaniah Kizza Sseninde, has played an important role in her ability to serve in politics and travel across the country.
She said women in leadership need understanding and support at home because public responsibilities can demand significant time away from their families.
“Everything that I have done, he has been my backbone.”
Sseninde said she has spent years travelling across the country in the course of her work, including assignments in distant parts of Uganda, but her husband has consistently given her peace of mind.
She urged other men to adopt the same approach and support women who have been entrusted with responsibilities to serve the country.
“If your woman has a responsibility in this country to serve it, we should agree that it is the Lord who has given her this responsibility, and you should support her.”
Sseninde also praised her husband for his patience and understanding, saying his willingness to shoulder responsibilities at home has helped her concentrate on her public duties.
She said disagreements in a family can make it difficult for either partner to perform effectively, while mutual support creates a peaceful environment for both husband and wife.
“I wish even other men in the country could learn from you because you are a good man.”
The NRM official also encouraged women to value their marriages and act responsibly towards their families, saying leadership should not come at the expense of the home.
Sseninde, who previously served as Wakiso District Woman MP and as State Minister for Primary Education, said strong families remain important to the success of women serving in different positions across the country.
