Equity Bank to Host Diaspora Investment Webinar to Boost Wealth Creation

Equity Bank Uganda will on Saturday, August 1, 2026, host the latest edition of its Equity Diaspora Webinar Series, aimed at helping Ugandans living abroad transform remittances into long-term investments that create businesses, jobs and sustainable wealth.

The virtual webinar comes at a time when Uganda’s diaspora is making an increasingly significant contribution to the country’s economy through record remittance inflows. The session will feature Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba, Deputy Governor of the Bank of Uganda, who will discuss the growing role of diaspora investment in driving Uganda’s economic transformation.

The initiative forms part of Equity Bank Uganda’s broader strategy to equip Ugandans abroad with practical financial knowledge, expert investment insights and tailored banking solutions that enable them to invest confidently back home.

This edition will focus on how the billions of shillings sent home every year can be redirected from meeting immediate household needs to financing productive sectors such as commercial agriculture, manufacturing, real estate and business development.

According to the Bank, Uganda received a record US$2.5 billion (approximately Shs9.3 trillion) in remittances in 2025, representing about 3.8 percent of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). While much of this money supports education, healthcare, housing and daily household expenses, Equity Bank believes it also presents a significant opportunity to accelerate long-term economic growth through strategic investment.

The Bank says that with the right financial guidance, investment structures and banking solutions, diaspora remittances can become an even stronger driver of entrepreneurship, business expansion and wealth creation.

Through the webinar series, Equity Bank Uganda is positioning itself not only as a provider of money transfer services but also as a trusted investment partner, connecting Ugandans abroad with financial products that allow them to save, invest and manage their investments from anywhere in the world.

The participation of the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Uganda underscores the country’s growing commitment to harnessing diaspora capital as a key pillar of national development. Discussions are expected to explore how sound economic policies, financial innovation and secure digital banking can unlock greater investment opportunities for Ugandans abroad.

The webinar also builds on Equity Bank Uganda’s growing international recognition in diaspora banking. Earlier this year, the Bank won the Corporate Business of the Year award at the African Business Chamber (AfBC) African Business Awards 2026 in London, in recognition of its contribution to financial inclusion, cross-border banking, trade facilitation and diaspora investment across Africa.

As digital banking continues to reshape global financial services, Equity Bank says it remains committed to leveraging technology and personalised advisory services to help customers conveniently manage their investments regardless of where they live.

The Bank says the Equity Diaspora Webinar Series is ultimately designed to empower Ugandans abroad to go beyond sending money home by making informed investment decisions that create lasting wealth for their families while contributing to Uganda’s broader economic transformation.
