Serere District, out of the rest of Teso districts, has remained the only district where political dust has not yet cleared.
As other districts in the region have already finished drafting their plans for their newly elected leaders to tackle, Serere residents are still caught up in blackmailing and counter-accusations, especially among political supporters who should now be helping in drafting what the elected leaders should lobby for, but they are busy posting blackmailing messages on social media.
They forgot that Serere District is one district where people still travel on dusty roads, although the government has already started planning for the tarmacking of one major road connecting Kumi, Ngora to Serere. But this plan might again be delayed if leaders get diverted by the current blackmailing.
Serere District is the only district with no upgraded district hospital. It has no student who has benefited from State House scholarships, particularly in Serere County.
Serere District, which was originally known as the food basket for the whole Teso region, has lost that ranking despite hosting the National Agriculture Institute (NAARO), due to lack of funding, which the newly elected leaders should now be advocating for its boosting.
Thanks to the NRM government, a ferry has already been purchased, which has now simplified transport between Serere, Kaberamaido, Amolatar to Buyende. However, there is one thing that the newly elected leaders should advocate for: the completion of a fish factory. These are things that need a combined positive attention rather than spending much time abusing one another on social media.
Accommodation of teachers and performance of pupils is still a challenge in Serere District, which also needs routine seminars for teachers and parents to forge a way forward on how to address it, but not blackmailing one another.
I remember President Museveni has, on several occasions, promised a school bus for St. Elizabeth Girls Secondary School Kidetok, Serere Senior Secondary School, and a dormitory for Sapir Primary School. These should be compiled and followed up by the newly elected leaders, but not blackmailing.
