NAKASEKE, Uganda — Police in the Savannah Region have recovered 19 heads of cattle that were stolen from a kraal in Muhangazima Village, Ngoma Sub-county, Nakaseke District.
The cattle were stolen on the night of January 19, 2026, from their owner, Tumwiine Nathan. The incident was reported at Ngoma Town Council Police Station, prompting immediate investigations.
Following intensive and coordinated operations, officers traced the stolen animals to a farm in Gomero Zone, Ngoma West Ward, where all 19 cattle were successfully recovered.
Two suspects, Gumisiriza Moses (51) and Rwakyankwanzi Sam, were arrested in connection with the theft and are currently in police custody to assist with ongoing investigations.
A third individual, businessman Ssebugwawo Robert, was initially detained after he was found in possession of three of the stolen cattle at Ngoma Cattle Market. Police say this development provided a crucial lead that enabled them to track down the main suspects.
Further inquiries led to the recovery of seven additional cattle believed to have been stolen from other farmers. Of these, four have been formally handed over to Edward Isanga, while the remaining three, reportedly belonging to Tandeka, are being held at Ngoma Police Station pending verification and official handover.
Police have commended community members for their cooperation and timely information, which greatly contributed to the success of the operation.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant, safeguard their livestock, and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
