Several Feared Dead After School Bus Carrying Pupils Crashes in Kapchorwa

A school bus transporting pupil of Kings David Junior School, Ndejje, has been involved in a fatal road crash in Kapchorwa District, with police yet to confirm the number of people killed or injured.

The accident occurred at around 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Chekwatit Village, Kimawa Parish, Kawowo Sub-county in Kapchorwa District.

According to the Uganda Police Force, the bus, registration number UA 108BQ, was carrying pupils when it was involved in the crash under circumstances that are still being investigated.

In a statement, the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety spokesperson, Michael Kananura, confirmed that police had registered the fatal crash and immediately dispatched officers and emergency responders to the scene.

“The Uganda Police Force confirms that police in Kapchorwa have this evening registered a fatal road traffic crash involving a school bus, registration number UA 108BQ, transporting pupils of Kings David Junior School, Ndejje,” Kananura said.

He noted that rescue operations were ongoing as police worked to evacuate victims and establish the number of fatalities and injuries.

“Police and other emergency responders are at the scene carrying out rescue operations and establishing the number of casualties and injured persons. At this stage, the exact number of fatalities and injuries has not yet been confirmed,” he said.

Authorities have urged the public to remain patient as rescue efforts continue, adding that more information will be released once the situation has been fully assessed.

The cause of the crash has not yet been established, and investigations are underway.
