President Yoweri Museveni has responded to inquiries from some of his followers, shedding light on how he amassed his wealth.

In a series of posts made on Monday, September 18, President Museveni explained that the majority of his wealth has been generated from his farming endeavors in Ntungamo District and Rwakitura, Nyabushozi County, located in Kiruhura District. The Rwakitura residence serves as a sort of upcountry State House for the President during his visits.

This response came following critical questions from individuals like Bart Nsubuga and the UK Official People Power-National Unity Platform (@uk_nup), who questioned the President’s continued focus on wealth creation after 40 years of public service.

President Museveni highlighted that the food items he mentioned, including cassava, peas, millet, meat, milk, and coffee, as well as the limited food consumed by First Lady Janet Museveni, are all sourced from their farms in Ntungamo, Rwakitura, Kisozi, and other locations.

He acknowledged the criticism, stating, “I have noted the hostile messages from Bart Nsubuga and the UK Official People Power-National Unity Platform @uk_nup. Nsubuga wondered why I still talk about wealth creation, having depended on the national purse for 40 years.”

President Museveni further shared that his family had no government employment history until 1965 when he briefly worked as a licensed teacher at Bweranyangyi Senior Secondary School, the year it was established. He emphasized that over the last 63 years of his involvement in African Resistance, he personally gained little that he couldn’t have obtained privately, provided there was peace in Uganda.

In response to Paul Kaziba’s suggestions, President Museveni highlighted the importance of addressing non-personal issues such as value addition, regional integration, and counterterrorism efforts. He stressed the significance of focusing on these matters to ensure the survival of the nation.

Regarding claims by @uk_nup that he and his National Resistance Army took cattle without compensation, President Museveni refuted these allegations, explaining the circumstances surrounding the cattle and compensation issues.

In relation to allegations of dictatorship, President Museveni argued that Uganda’s form of governance, characterized by regular elections and special representation for various groups in Parliament and district councils, should be considered a unique and positive version of governance.

Responding to a follower’s concern about the handling of NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi’s rallies, President Museveni defended the government’s actions, emphasizing the importance of discipline and safety protocols during events.

In conclusion, President Museveni expressed his gratitude to all Ugandans, especially the Bazzukulu, for their congratulatory messages on his 79th birthday. He also reflected on historical events related to his political journey.
