Mbale City, Uganda — The Office of the President has communicated to the Bugisu Cultural Institution through its Prime Minister, Dr. Paul Mwambu, to organize a cultural capacity-building training for about 35 clan chairpersons and other cultural leaders.
This was revealed to this publication by the spokesperson of the Bugisu Cultural Institution, Steven Masiga.
Masiga said the training will be conducted by the Office of the President, Department of Ethics and Integrity, with the aim of strengthening the capacity of cultural actors in areas of ethics, cultural preservation, and promotion of cultural norms.
He added that a pornography committee will also be established as part of efforts to address moral degradation in communities.
The training is expected to take place next week in Mbale City, and participants will be provided with a modest transport allowance at a public fare rate.
According to Masiga, the initiative comes at a time of growing concern over moral breakdown in communities, where school-going children are increasingly exposed to behaviors such as pornography, drug and narcotic substance abuse, and other practices seen as contrary to cultural values and norms.
