OBONGI, UGANDA – Students of Gopele Seed Secondary School in Gimara sub-county, Obongi District, have expressed profound gratitude to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government for constructing the first Seed Secondary School in the district, marking a historic milestone in the region’s education development.
The heartfelt appreciation came during a community meeting held at the newly constructed school, where students, teachers, and local leaders gathered to welcome the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Obongi, Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, and the LC3 Chairperson of Gimara sub-county, Lomo George, who were on a monitoring tour of schools in the area.
Gopele Seed Secondary School, erected at a cost of three billion Ugandan shillings by the NRM government, is set to drastically improve access to quality secondary education in the region. Previously, many students in Obongi had to travel long distances to neighboring districts to access advanced academic facilities, often facing significant financial and logistical challenges.
Standing proudly in their new classrooms and dormitories, students took turns thanking President Museveni, with one student saying, “We thank our father, President Museveni, for bringing education so close to our homes. We pray that God blesses him and gives him strength to continue constructing seed schools in every sub-county in Uganda.”
The initiative is part of the NRM government’s broader vision to decentralize quality education by establishing a seed school in every sub-county across the country, ensuring equitable access to secondary education for all Ugandan children.
RDC Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka lauded the government’s commitment to fulfilling its manifesto promise. “The construction of Gopele Seed Secondary School is a clear demonstration of the NRM government’s dedication to education and human capital development,” he said. “Obongi is finally reaping from national programs that were for long exclusive to other regions.”
In a further boost to education in the district, Hashaka revealed that the NRM government has approved another three billion shillings for the construction of a second Seed Secondary School in Itula sub-county. “This is not the end. The government has already allocated funds for another seed school in Itula, and we anticipate groundbreaking soon,” he announced to thunderous applause from the community.
Chairperson LC3 Gimara sub-county, George Lomo, also commended the central government for consistently allocating billions of shillings annually to Obongi District for education, infrastructure, healthcare, and other critical development programs.
“This investment is transforming our community,” Lomo said. “Parents can now see a brighter future for their children without the burden of sending them far from home for quality education.”
The completion of Gopele Seed Secondary School is expected to accommodate over 600 students initially, with plans for expansion in the coming years. The school is equipped with modern laboratories, a digital library, dormitories, and sports facilities, setting a new standard for rural education in Uganda.
As the sun set over the new school compound, students walked the corridors of their dream come true, proof that policy, political will, and community support can reshape the future of education in even the most marginalized regions of the country.
For the youth of Obongi, Gopele Seed Secondary School is more than bricks and mortar, it is a seed of hope, growth, and national unity.
