Amidst the commencement of the 27th Commonwealth Speakers and Presiding Officers’ Conference (CSPOC) at Speke Resort Munyonyo, the Ugandan Police have issued traffic guidelines to ensure smooth proceedings during the event, which runs from January 3 to 6, 2024. As Uganda hosts this significant conference, the Police spokesperson for the Traffic Directorate, Michael Kananura, urges the public to exercise caution and comply with traffic restrictions.

During the conference, traffic restrictions will be enforced, and alternative routes will be in place as directed by traffic officers. Kananura emphasizes the importance of prioritizing conference delegates on the affected roads, calling on road users to adhere to directives issued by the Traffic Police. The statement was conveyed through various communication channels, including X (formerly Twitter).

With the anticipation of increased activities on routes leading to Speke Resort Munyonyo, Kananura advises road users to plan their journeys ahead to mitigate potential inconveniences. In particular, travelers with flights from Entebbe International Airport are urged to make necessary arrangements for their journeys.

The CSPOC, initiated in 1969 by the then Speakers of the House of Commons of Canada, Lucien Lamoureux, is an exclusive gathering for Speakers and Presiding Officers of the National Parliaments of all independent sovereign states within the Commonwealth.

Looking ahead, Kananura assures the public that Traffic Police will provide updates on the ongoing CSPOC and the upcoming Non-Alliance Movement (NAM) conference, underlining the commitment to keeping the public informed about traffic situations and potential disruptions.
