Kabale, Uganda – Police in Kabale District have reported the deaths of two unidentified individuals in an accident that occurred at Nyakijumba along the Kabale-Mbarara road.

According to Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate, the two victims died when a vehicle with registration number UAJ 353Y, driven by an unknown individual who is currently on the run, collided with a motorcycle (registration number UGH 748T). The motorcyclist and a passenger died on the spot, and both victims had no identification documents.

It is alleged that the driver of the vehicle, traveling from Mbarara to Kabale, lost control as he approached Nyakijumba near the Harvest Petrol Station.

The vehicle then veered into the opposite lane, colliding with the motorcycle coming from the Kabale side. Both the rider and the passenger of the motorcycle died immediately.

The scene was visited by Police Corporal Mugabi and his team. The bodies of the motorcycle rider and the passenger were taken to the Kabale Regional Referral Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Police are appealing to anyone who may be missing loved ones to visit the hospital mortuary for identification and to arrange a decent burial.

Maate confirmed that the motorcycle (registration number UGH 748T) has been towed to the Kabale Central Police Station (CPS) yard, while the vehicle involved in the accident is still at the scene, being guarded by police.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the accident was caused by reckless driving on the part of the driver of the vehicle. However, further inquiries are ongoing as police continue to search for the runaway driver.
