Moses Mulimira, the Uganda UK Health Alliance lead, has been presented with the Diaspora Global Health Recognition Award at the 5th Diaspora Engagement Forum and African Diaspora & Development Day 2024 in London. He was recognized as the Diaspora Global Health Champion for his exceptional dedication and outstanding contribution to healthcare in the UK and back home.

“The award is not just a recognition of my work but also a testament to the power of collaboration with development partners. I thank you for honoring me, and I am truly grateful for the opportunity to contribute to global health,” Mulimira noted.

He received the award from the Chief Nursing Officer of Wales, Sue Tranka, and the Chief Executive Officer of Spire Healthcare, Justin Ash, who are superiors at one of the largest private hospital companies in the UK.

“It is truly inspiring to see his commitment and dedication being recognized with this well-deserved award. His exceptional efforts have not only brought about positive change in healthcare but also made a lasting impact on the lives of countless individuals in the UK and his motherland. Moses’s achievement is a testament to his exemplary representation of our company. His tireless work reflects the values and principles that we stand for.”

The African Union Commission’s African Institute for Remittances (AIR) initiative and the African Foundation for Development (AFFORD UK) teamed up for this year’s event to harness Diaspora resources for sustainable socio-economic development and investment in Africa.

The event also aimed to maximize the development impact of remittances by increasing knowledge of the Diaspora and advancing practical knowledge on creating conditions necessary to replicate innovative projects and initiatives between the Diaspora, development NGOs, national/local authorities, and the private sector.

It served as a networking opportunity for the Diaspora, development actors, the private sector, civil society, and government representatives to build trust around projects that allow for more effective channeling of migrant remittances for development purposes. The event also focused on leveraging remittances for investment and sustainable development in Africa.

Generally, the 5th Diaspora Engagement Forum and African Diaspora & Development Day 2024 was fruitful, tackling areas such as:

⏩ Breaking through the barriers of impact first and investor markets to develop diaspora-targeted investment products.

The event was graced by high-profile dignitaries, including Giorgia Prati (Migration & Climate Change Specialist at FAO), Acting High Commissioner of Kenya to the UK Ambassador Edwin Afande, and Lewis Goode (CEO & Founder of AfriVest), among others.
