Ugandan Referee Peter Kabugo Dies After Collapse in SC Villa Vs UPDF Match

Uganda Premier League Second Assistant Referee, Peter Kabugo, tragically passed away on Friday evening after collapsing during a match between SC Villa and UPDF at Wankulukuku Stadium.

The incident occurred in the 73rd minute, moments after SC Villa scored their fifth goal in a swift counterattack led by Hakim Kiwanuka.




As players returned to the field from celebrating, Kabugo was found motionless on the pitch. Players and officials immediately rushed to his aid.




The match was briefly halted as he was rushed to a nearby hospital. Fourth official Joshua Duula stepped in to replace him.




Sadly, news of Kabugo’s passing emerged around the 90th minute. Referee’s Assessor Rwamuyamba Rosebell Ram was visibly distraught as she confirmed the tragic news to colleagues after the match.

SC Villa secured a 5-0 victory, with Charles Lwanga scoring four goals and Aggrey Kirya netting an own goal.
