Collins Angwech Otim, who also serves as the director of Far Away Friends (an NGO based in Amolatar District), has officially declared her intention to run for Parliament in the 2026 general elections.
In a media statement made on Wednesday afternoon from Namasale Town Council, Amolatar District, Angwech announced her decision to campaign for a seat in the 12th Parliament, representing Kyoga Constituency.
Angwech, who vows to be the voice of the oppressed and voiceless in Kyoga Constituency and Amolatar District as a whole, shared that she has received overwhelming support at all levels within the community. “I have seen other areas benefit from better education, healthcare, good roads, and women and youth empowerment projects, thanks to active leaders elected by the people,” she said. “However, this is not the case in Kyoga Constituency. This is why I want to join Parliament—to advocate for these same developments for my people.”
On the issue of healthcare, Angwech pointed out that residents of Kyoga Constituency have to travel long distances to access medical services, a challenge that is largely ignored by current leaders. “No one seems to care about this issue among the leaders we have at the moment,” she added.
During her interview with the press, Angwech emphasized her qualifications and experience, stating that she is an all-around person with extensive knowledge in Development Studies, to the level of a consultant.
She believes that her experience in the NGO sector equips her with the skills needed to effectively serve the people of Kyoga Constituency if elected as their Member of Parliament in 2026.
Although she is a woman, Angwech confirmed that she is ready to campaign among men and is confident that, with God’s will, she will emerge as the top candidate. “I may be a woman, but I will not be deterred by the challenges posed by my opponents who are undermining me simply because I am a woman,” she said. “I stand firm and am determined to be an umbrella of unity for the people of Amolatar when I emerge as the winner.”
Angwech, 37, will be contesting under the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party ticket. She is currently engaging with voters and consulting the electorate on her bid to represent Kyoga Constituency in the upcoming 2026 general election.
During a recent visit to Namasale Town Council, our reporter witnessed a group of women carrying Angwech in jubilation as she was preparing to attend a dedication prayer at Namasale Technical School on Wednesday.
it is a good idea but tell your husband to come and complete a staff house at Abwong primary school he was contracted to do otherwise it might not be good for her
