UPDF Announces Nationwide Recruitment of 9,627 Infantry Soldiers to Boost Defence Capacity

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces has officially announced a nationwide recruitment exercise targeting 9,627 regular forces for the Infantry Forces, in a move aimed at strengthening the country’s security and defence capacity.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs through the Directorate of Defence Public Information, the recruitment exercise will commence on July 1, 2026, and conclude on 14th July 2026.

The UPDF said aspiring candidates seeking to join the regular forces will first be required to obtain recommendations from local security and administrative leaders, including LC I, LC II, LC III chairpersons, GISO, and DISO officials.

Applicants will then submit their application forms to the offices of Resident District Commissioners (RDCs), where registration will be conducted before the documents are forwarded to the Joint Staff Human Resource Management office for shortlisting.

According to the statement, successful applicants will have their names displayed on district and city notice boards and will later be invited to designated recruitment centres for final interviews and screening.

The military further revealed that the recruitment exercise will follow district and city population figures to determine recruitment quotas across the country, a strategy intended to ensure regional balance and fairness in the selection process.

The announcement has already sparked excitement among many young Ugandans seeking employment opportunities and a chance to serve in the national army.

The UPDF encouraged interested youths not to lose hope, describing the recruitment as an opportunity for those willing to serve their country through the armed forces.
