The Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Karenga District, Ronald Kedi Ongodia, has called upon eligible youth in the district to embrace the ongoing Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) recruitment exercise, describing it as a gateway to employment, skills development, patriotism, and socio-economic transformation.
Speaking during community mobilization engagements across the district, Ongodia encouraged young men and women who meet the recruitment requirements to take advantage of the opportunity and contribute to national development through service in the armed forces.
He noted that the UPDF has evolved into a professional institution that offers not only military training but also opportunities for education, leadership development, and career growth.
“The UPDF remains one of the most respected institutions in our country. I encourage the youth of Karenga to come forward and seize this opportunity. Through discipline, hard work, and patriotism, they can build successful careers while serving their nation,” Ongodia said.
The Deputy RDC emphasized that recruitment into the UPDF is conducted transparently and free of charge, warning applicants against individuals who may seek money in exchange for promises of enlistment.
He urged parents, local leaders, and community members to support interested candidates by ensuring they obtain the necessary documentation and prepare adequately for the recruitment process.
Ongodia further observed that youth unemployment remains a challenge in many communities and said the recruitment exercise presents a valuable opportunity for young people to gain meaningful employment, acquire practical skills, and improve their livelihoods.
“As leaders, we want our young people to be productive citizens. Joining the UPDF is not only about carrying a gun; it is about acquiring discipline, skills, education, and becoming part of the country’s development agenda,” he added.
The call comes as the UPDF continues its nationwide recruitment exercise aimed at strengthening the country’s defence capabilities while creating opportunities for qualified Ugandan youth to serve their nation.
Local leaders in Karenga have welcomed the initiative and expressed optimism that many eligible youth from the district will respond positively to the call and take advantage of the opportunity to build a brighter future.
