‘We Don’t Eat Concerts’: Kakumiro Residents Tell MP Byamukama to Deliver Development

Minister of State for Transport, Hon. Fred Byamukama

KAKUMIRO – A section of residents in Bugangaizi West County, Kakumiro District, has called on their Member of Parliament and State Minister for Works, Fred Byamukama, to shift his focus from organizing entertainment events to lobbying for development projects that directly improve people’s livelihoods.

The residents accuse the minister of frequently organizing music concerts and social gatherings instead of addressing the area’s pressing development challenges.

Speaking to this publication, John Bangizi, one of the concerned voters, said the constituency needs better infrastructure, education, healthcare, and employment opportunities rather than entertainment.

“The minister has diverted his attention from lobbying for development projects such as roads, schools, scholarships, and manufacturing industries. Instead, he spends money bringing musicians to entertain people. That money could be invested in community projects like constructing boreholes or improving access roads,” Bangizi said.

He argued that Kakumiro continues to lag behind in development despite having leaders who should be advocating for improved public services.

Another resident, Hellen Mbabazi, said several health centres across the district continue to operate without adequate beds, medicines, and other essential medical supplies.

“We don’t eat concerts. We want projects that can help us educate our children, improve our health services, and create opportunities to earn a living, not music shows,” Mbabazi said.

The residents urged their MP to concentrate on mobilizing government support for key development initiatives that would have a lasting impact on the community.

Efforts by this publication to obtain a comment from State Minister for Works Fred Byamukama were unsuccessful, as repeated calls to his known mobile telephone number went unanswered, with the line remaining busy.
