KISORO, Uganda – Police in Kisoro District have arrested two suspects in connection with the brutal murder of Francis Hitimana, 52, a resident of Rukoro Village, Muhindura Parish, Kanaba Subcounty.
The suspects have been identified as Nyirabizagwira Margret, the deceased’s wife, and Ndayisenga Moses, his son. The incident occurred on October 4, 2025, at around 10:00 a.m.
According to preliminary police reports, Hitimana had returned home that morning when he was allegedly attacked by his wife, son, and two daughters. The group reportedly beat and hacked him to death, accusing him of selling family land three days earlier without their consent. The family had allegedly refused to sign the land sale agreement.
Further investigations reveal that after the killing, the suspects tried to conceal the crime by moving the body to a road between Rukoro Village and Gasheregenyi. However, they later brought the body back to the house and placed it on a mat in the sitting room.
A concerned neighbor, who noticed bloodstains around the home, alerted the area chairperson, Richard Kaburabuza, who in turn reported the matter to Kanaba Police Station.
The Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed the incident. He stated that the body was transported to Kisoro Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Police have since recovered and exhibited the suspected murder weapons, which include a panga, hoe, and axe.
