Women Members of Parliament-elect from the Greater Ankole sub-region have endorsed Hon. Rwakaizi Fred as their preferred candidate to represent Uganda in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).
The endorsement was made during a meeting with the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) National Vice Chairman, Michael Nuwagira Kaguta, popularly known as Toyota, where the leaders expressed confidence in Rwakaizi’s ability to represent Uganda’s interests at the regional parliament.
During the meeting, the women MPs-elect pledged to mobilize support and vote for Hon. Rwakaizi, saying he has the capacity and vision needed to advance Uganda’s agenda within the East African Community.
They emphasized that Uganda needs representatives in EALA who clearly understand the objectives and priorities of the East African Community and can effectively advocate for policies that promote regional integration and development.
The leaders noted that Uganda’s strategic position in the region, including major economic projects such as the oil pipeline that will pass through Tanzania to the coast, requires experienced leadership capable of safeguarding the country’s interests at the regional level.
According to the leaders, Rwakaizi Fred has the ability to champion favorable policies in key areas including trade, security, social integration, and education within the East African Community.
They added that although several candidates have expressed interest in the position, they believe Rwakaizi remains the most suitable candidate to represent Uganda in EALA.
The women leaders also called for unity and collective support to ensure that the country sends capable representatives to the regional legislative assembly to strengthen Uganda’s voice within the East African Community.
