Education officials in Rubirizi District have conducted a training session for teachers and headteachers aimed at improving the quality of education and performance in schools across the district.
The training, held on Wednesday at Rugando II Primary School in Katerera Sub-county, brought together teachers and school administrators to strengthen teamwork, performance management, lesson planning, evaluation, and discipline in schools.
Speaking during the session, the Deputy District Education Officer of Rubirizi District, Geoffrey Tumusiime, who was also one of the facilitators, said the training was organized to equip teachers with the skills necessary to improve teaching standards and promote discipline among both learners and teachers.
Tumusiime explained that the initiative is intended to uplift and enhance the quality and efficiency of education and sports in the district by enabling teachers to effectively prepare lesson plans and deliver meaningful learning experiences to pupils.
He noted that the training also addressed key challenges affecting education in the district, including teacher absenteeism, adherence to the teachers’ code of conduct, and cases of teachers reporting to class while under the influence of alcohol.
According to Tumusiime, the program is also focusing on the use of performance scorecards to help teachers measure their work and improve standards in schools.
He urged the participants to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the training in their respective schools in order to improve academic performance and nurture responsible citizens who can contribute positively to their communities and families.
Meanwhile, participants welcomed the training and praised the Rubirizi District Education Department for the initiative.
The headteacher of Rugando II Primary School, William Tumusiime, and the headteacher of Kirugu Primary School, Grolia Arayampa, said the training would greatly improve their professional skills and help them deliver quality education to learners.
They pledged to implement what they had learned through coordinated service delivery systems aimed at promoting sustainable and equitable development in the education sector.
The participants also appealed to the district education department and the government to organize more such trainings to further strengthen education standards and improve learning outcomes in Rubirizi District.
