It’s better to have a debt than to be known as a thief. I have seen and read social media posts castigating the State Minister for Local Government, Hon. Justine Namere, over debts.
According to reports in the media, the Masaka City Woman Member of Parliament is facing mounting public scrutiny and growing political pressure after residents, suppliers, and service providers accused her of failing to settle millions of shillings in outstanding debts, raising fresh questions about her credibility as a public official charged with promoting accountability and good governance.
What I want to tell Ugandans is that if it’s true Hon. Namere has that debt, that’s not a crime. In fact, it’s better to have a debt than to steal public funds.
I am sure all this against Namere is being brought by a section of leaders who are trying to sabotage her fight against the misuse of public resources, but I would like to advise Ms. Namere to continue with the fight against corruption and expand it to other departments as well.
To those claiming that Namere owes them money, please seek the proper way of sorting it out because your motive of making Namere lose focus in chasing thieves will not succeed.
I would like to thank the Badman General Muhoozi Kainerugaba for championing the war against corruption in this country, and I am seeing local government officials spending nights in the field working on abandoned projects.
