Minister for the Presidency and Budiope West Member of Parliament, Hon. Babirye Milly Babalanda, has challenged Buyende District leaders to increase accountability and ensure government programmes directly benefit ordinary citizens.
During a meeting with the district leadership, Minister Babalanda assessed the progress of key government initiatives, with emphasis on the Parish Development Model (PDM), service delivery and other programmes aimed at improving household incomes and livelihoods.
The Minister delivered greetings from President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni, as well as the entire Office of the President. She also thanked leaders and residents who supported her continued appointment as Minister in charge of the Presidency.
Babalanda urged political and technical leaders in Buyende to work together, uphold discipline and fight corruption, noting that government resources must reach the intended beneficiaries without diversion or misuse.
She reminded leaders that President Museveni had declared the new term as a “kisanja no sleep,” a call for increased commitment, hard work and zero tolerance to corruption and poor performance among public officials.
“Meaning no more sleep, no more corruption, no more diversions, and no more politeness for non-performers who want leadership positions for ego and personal intentions,” Babalanda said while emphasizing the need for leaders to put service above personal interests.
The Minister tasked Buyende leaders with closely monitoring PDM funds and other government projects from the district level up to the parish and household levels to ensure that citizens benefit from wealth creation initiatives.
The Buyende leadership welcomed the Minister’s message and pledged to strengthen supervision, transparency and teamwork as they work towards improving service delivery and implementing the NRM government’s development agenda.
