Why Some Opposition Top Leaders Are Not Happy With Among’s Investigations

Steven Ariong

Ever since the government launched investigations into the alleged illicit enrichment by former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, which led to her house arrest and confiscation of her multibillion-shilling cars, some leaders from a particular opposition party are not happy with the investigations simply because the former Speaker was their main funder of their campaigns.

Actually, the former Speaker is said to have bought that party for Shs 4 billion and was working around the clock to change it for her personal use.

When other presidential candidates were crying of fuel during their campaigns, the candidate of this particular party never faced that challenge because he was getting Shs 50 million from the former Speaker of Parliament every day for campaigns. Even the MPs affiliated with this particular party were fully funded against the NRM flag bearers.

When the intelligence circle nearly got to know about this, some security personnel assigned to the Speaker’s office quickly tipped her off. That’s when she started moving around every part of the country, camouflaging to be campaigning for the President, yet actually she was trying to popularize her image to Ugandans.

Currently, the presidential candidates of this particular party have lost hope of being in active politics. Instead, they have decided to backtrack into other businesses because the fate of their main funder is not known.

The source of wealth of the former Speaker is still disturbing every Ugandan. Questions started coming up when the President sent the former Speaker to a Soroti Catholic fundraising church. The President sent her with Shs 20 million as his contribution, but surprisingly she gave a contribution of Shs 100 million cash.

During the burial of the late Jacob Oulanyah, the President gave Shs 50 million as his condolence. Among also gave Shs 50 million cash, something which left people wondering how one can give more than the President of the country or even the same figure.

There is a lot that we shall be bringing out about the former Speaker.

My humble request to our mighty Papa Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is to use Among as an example in dealing with corrupt government officials.

I also want to appeal to our Badman General Muhoozi Kainerugaba to continue with the same spirit of fighting against corruption in Uganda. Long live Gen Museveni, long live Gen Muhoozi.
