National Unity Platform (NUP) President Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has revealed that since stepping into politics in 2017, he has faced moments where he felt overwhelmed and thought about walking away from the struggle.
Speaking during the inaugural episode of the new NUP Podcast, Kyagulanyi candidly shared that the political journey has at times weighed heavily on him.
“Yes, I have thought of quitting very many times,” he said. “At times I ask myself how the hell I got involved in all this because honestly, I did not set out to get involved in politics.”
Kyagulanyi noted that what often keeps him going is the unwavering belief and sacrifice of the young people around him who continue to look up to his leadership.
“The people around me are braver than me. There are people who have nothing but hope in my leadership and they have given everything. They are younger than me. All these make me decide that this is not a hope to let down, and we have to keep going,” he concluded.
The revelation offers a rare glimpse into the emotional and mental battles behind Kyagulanyi’s political activism, even as he remains one of the most influential opposition figures in Uganda today.
