Otuke MP Omara Paul Joins NRM, Pledges Support for Museveni and Vows to Win Primaries

MP Omara Paul Vows to Win NRM Primaries, Ready to Work with President Museveni

The political battle for the NRM primaries in Otuke County, Otuke District, located in the Lango Sub-Region of Northern Uganda, is far from over. Incumbent MP Omara Paul plans to join the NRM party and contest in the NRM party primaries.

Hon. Omara Paul has promised to outsmart the 9 candidates currently vying for the Otuke County seat with his new political tactics to secure victory in the NRM primaries. So far, about 9 candidates are aspiring to challenge the incumbent MP, Omara Paul.

He stated that, although his fellow aspirants are full of political fervor, they should be ready for the political challenges he will bring. Omara noted that he plans to work closely with H.E. President Yoweri Museveni, and he is determined to contest under the NRM party, come rain or shine.

“As we head into the next election, I will be running as an NRM candidate. Kindly, if the president is in your area, you should be able to reach out to him easily. That is why I am joining NRM,” said Omara Paul.

He added, “It is important for me as a leader to take the people of Otuke to a much higher level by working with President Museveni until Pakalat. As leaders, we have limited time on earth. We can’t wait for a future government; the government is here now. To my opponents in Otuke, we are ready to roll, and we will roll them like camels to the sea,” Omara stated.

Hon. Paul Omara, the incumbent and an Independent MP for Otuke County, officially declared his intent to contest in the NRM primaries on Monday morning during a press briefing in Lira City. He emphasized his determination to win the NRM primaries in Otuke County and become the official NRM flag bearer in preparation for the general elections.

The current MP for Otuke Constituency, Paul Omara, welcomed competition but advised younger aspirants to focus on finding jobs instead of challenging him. He expressed confidence in his re-election due to his many contributions to the constituency.

The 2021 parliamentary race was a close battle, with Hon. Paul Omara narrowly defeating Richard Omara Awio by a margin of only 239 votes.

This time around, the number of aspirants has increased, with Omara transitioning from an Independent to the NRM party.

According to the Independent Electoral Commission’s official results from the 2021 general election, the aspirants garnered the following votes:

  1. Paul Omara (Independent) – 6,681 votes (Winner)
  2. Richard Omara Awio (NRM) – 6,442 votes
  3. Moses Otim Augustine (UPC) – 1,369 votes
  4. Obong Daniel (Independent) – 391 votes
  5. Okwanga Geoffrey Dick (FDC) – 88 votes

This time, with Omara transitioning to the NRM party, the battle lines are already drawn, and Omara has expressed confidence in the upcoming elections.
