Concerns have emerged over alleged internal political manoeuvres targeting Hon. Calvin Echodu within ruling party structures, with claims that some groups are working to undermine his growing influence in Eastern Uganda politics.
It is alleged that a disgruntled faction, reportedly linked to former Speaker Annet Anita Among, is seeking to weaken Echodu’s political standing and potentially frustrate his continuation as NRM National Vice Chairperson for Eastern Uganda.
According to the claims, individuals within the faction are positioning themselves close to Hon. Echodu while allegedly advancing plans aimed at diminishing his political influence. However, these assertions remain unverified.
There are also allegations surrounding ongoing developments in Majengo, Soroti City West, where a multibillion-shilling construction project is said to be taking shape. Some claims suggest the project could have political undertones, although no evidence has been presented to support the allegations.
Further reports indicate that a group of about 12 high-profile political actors is allegedly coordinating efforts to influence internal party processes, including attempts to block Echodu’s possible appointment as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
It is also alleged that narratives questioning his eligibility based on citizenship status are being circulated within certain political circles, though these claims remain unconfirmed.
Observers note that rising political competition in the Teso sub-region has intensified internal rivalries, particularly among leaders seeking closer alignment with the President’s inner circle.
Hon. Echodu has been advised in some quarters to remain cautious and closely assess those within his political network, amid concerns over shifting alliances and internal party dynamics.
