A local NRM leader in Kayunga collapsed and died during a court session while testifying in a land dispute case, leaving the community in shock.

(Kayunga) – Shock spread through Kayunga Town on Thursday when Alex Kenyi, the 56 year old chairman of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party for Busaana sub-county, collapsed and died during a court session. Kenyi was attending the hearing of a land dispute case in which he was accusing another resident of illegal possession of land in Namagabi village.

Eyewitnesses recounted that Kenyi was testifying in the case when the tragic incident occurred. “The deceased had just stood up in the dock when he collapsed,” said Mr. Henry Kaggwa, the Local Council 1 (LC1) chairman for Namagabi A village, who was present in the courtroom. Efforts were made to rush Kenyi to Kayunga Regional Referral Hospital, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The court session, presided over by Magistrate Emmanuel Perimba, was immediately suspended following Kenyi’s collapse, leaving attendees and court officials visibly shaken by the unexpected event.

According to Mr. Kaggwa, Kenyi appeared to be in good health before the incident, having ridden his motorcycle to the court session without any visible signs of discomfort. Local residents described him as an active community member who had not reported any recent health issues.

Mr. Livingstone Kyagaba, the NRM chairperson for Kayunga North, remembered Kenyi as a loyal and dedicated supporter of the ruling party. “Whenever NRM matters arose, Kenyi would step forward to support his party,” Kyagaba shared.

Kenyi’s family is now awaiting a postmortem report to determine the cause of death, as they process this sudden and tragic loss.
