(Soroti) – Bobi Wine, leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), ended his party’s countrywide tour this week with a stop in Soroti District in Teso, Eastern Uganda. The tour aimed to spread a message of change, justice, and economic empowerment, according to Wine. He expressed gratitude for the warm and enthusiastic reception from Soroti residents.
Wine, a prominent opposition leader and former presidential candidate, used the opportunity to highlight his party’s commitment to ending what he described as the “dictatorship” of President Yoweri Museveni and tackling government corruption. His message in Soroti, as throughout the tour, focused on achieving a political and economic transformation in Uganda.
The tour, branded the “#NUPCountryWideTour,” has taken the NUP team to several districts across Uganda, engaging communities on the party’s vision and agenda. As the tour wraps up in Soroti, Wine announced that activities will resume on Monday with a trip to Kisoro District in Western Uganda. In Kisoro, Wine and his team will support NUP candidate Sultana Salim, who is contesting in a by-election for the Kisoro Woman Member of Parliament seat.
This ongoing tour has become a platform for NUP to rally support for its cause, with hashtags like #PeoplePowerOurPower and #FreeAllPoliticalPrisonersinUganda widely used in their campaign messaging. Wine emphasized that NUP’s goal remains to mobilize Ugandans towards meaningful change, which he believes is crucial for Uganda’s future.
